2015-16 tax returns are now overdue

31 August 2017

To avoid a debt, lodge your tax return or tell us that you don’t need to lodge one.

If you received Family Tax Benefit (FTB) in 2015-16, you needed to confirm your income by 30 June 2017.

If you haven’t lodged your tax return or told us you don’t need to lodge one, we’ll send you an Account Payable notice in September 2017. This will be for the full amount of FTB you received in 2015-16.

You need to lodge your tax return or tell us you don’t need to lodge one. You need to do this even if you only received FTB for part of the financial year.

Bear in mind if you have a partner, they need to provide this information as well.

If you’ve lodged a tax return, you don’t need to do anything else. We’ll get the information we need from the ATO once they process your return. Remember, this can take a few weeks, so lodge your tax return as soon as possible.

If you don’t need to lodge a tax return, please tell us now. You can tell us by using the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app. In the app, go to My Tasks and select Advise Non Lodgement of Tax Return to tell us.

You can also tell us by using your Centrelink online account through myGov. From the Menu, select Family Assistance, then select Advise non-lodgement of tax return.
