Can I get a student payment?

You may be able to get a student payment if you’re studying at university, TAFE or doing an apprenticeship.
As the year starts drawing to a close, there are a couple of things you may be wondering:

There are certain criteria you need to meet in order get a student payment. You need to be studying in an approved course or traineeship, generally full time, to get a student payment.

If you’re dependent and get Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY Living Allowance, you may get a letter asking for these details.
Your payment may change if you’ve dropped a subject or stopped studying.
