PBS Safety Net thresholds are now lower
3 January 2020
If you spend a lot on PBS medicines, you’ll reach the threshold to access cheaper medicines sooner.
PBS Safety Net thresholds are the amount you need to spend before you can get cheaper medicines.
A lower threshold means you’ll be able to access cheaper PBS medicines quicker. If you combine your family’s PBS amounts, you may reach the threshold even sooner.
From 1 January, the 2020 PBS Safety Net thresholds are:
- $316.80 for concession card holders
- $1,486.80 for general customers.
This change can save you up to around $80 per year in out‑of‑pocket costs.
You’ll soon be able to get Medicare benefits for mental health treatment if you’ve been affected by bushfires.
