Record your same-sex marriage with us

16 February 2018

We recognise same-sex marriages that happen overseas and in Australia.

If you’re in a same-sex marriage and let us know between 9 December 2017 and 10 February 2018, we’ve updated this in our system. You don’t need to contact us.

If you recently married and haven’t let us know, find out how to update your relationship status.

There’s no payment difference between being married or in a de facto relationship. However, if you’re getting a payment you need to let us know if you start or end a relationship.

You can update your relationship status at any time.

The passing of the Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms Bill) 2017 doesn’t change how we assess your relationship status.
