School’s back! Are your child’s education details correct?

1 March 2019

If you’re getting Family Tax Benefit (FTB) for a child 16-19, you might need to update your child’s education details.

If your child’s education details have changed it’s important you let us know. Any changes could affect your FTB.

This is particularly important if your child has finished year 12 or decides not to continue secondary study. If your child is 16 or older and stops studying, your FTB for that child will stop. If you don’t tell us when this happens we may overpay you. If we do, you’ll owe us money which you’ll have to pay back.

What you need to do

Provide us with correct education details for your child.

Tell us online using your Centrelink online account through myGov. For help to do this, use our guide to update your child’s educations details for FTB.
