Started a new job? Update your employment status online

1 May 2019

If you start a new job, you need to let us know. The best way to do this is online. Here’s how.

Working while you study is a great way to get some hands-on experience. It also helps you earn a bit of extra money.

Whether you've landed a job at the local café or got yourself a retail gig, we need to know. If you get a payment from us, you need to tell us whenever you start a new job.

You can update your employment status online using either:

You can make your updates by selecting Income and Assets, then Employment income and Update employment status.

Doing this online means you can tell us as soon as you’ve started your new job. There’s no need to wait until we’re open to call or visit us. It also means you can start reporting your income straight away. This reduces the risk of us paying you too much.

And if you leave a job? You guessed it, you can tell us about this online too. If you report zero income for a reporting period, you can then select the I have stopped work option.

Remember, it’s important to tell us if any of your circumstances change. This is so we can give you the right payment.
