Take care with your Health Care Card
30 July 2019
If you get a student payment, you’ll get a Health Care Card. Find out when to expect it and what you can use it for.
Flu season is well and truly among us. The only thing worse than hearing Sniffly McSniffleface at the back of the lecture theatre is being that person.
Stay healthy while you study by:
- boiling up some of Mum’s chicken soup, which is both delicious and nutritious
- resting, as sleeping well helps improve your memory, which is perfect for last minute cramming
- using your Health Care Card to get cheaper medicines and some discounts.
You’ll get a Health Care Card if you’re getting:
You don’t need to do anything to get your Health Care Card, we’ll send it to you. You can also access your card in the Digital Wallet in your Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.
This means you’ll get both your first payment and Health Care Card at around the same time. This’ll put you on track to avoid getting the sniffles!
Your card is valid for 1 year unless you stop getting your payment. If you keep getting your student payment you’ll stay eligible for the card. You won’t need to do anything. We’ll send you a new card when the one you have expires.
Remember, when you get a payment you need to tell us about any changes to your circumstances.
For example, you need to tell us if any of the following happen:
- your income goes up
- you start or return to work
- you change your address.
