We’re busting myths for young Australians this DonateLife Week

27 July 2018

Common myths are holding young Australians back from making a decision about organ and tissue donation.

It’s DonateLife Week from 29 July to 5 August 2018. Registering to be an organ and tissue donor is quick and easy. Yet young Australians have the lowest rate of registration of any age group. In fact, registration among other ages is more than 4 times higher.

Many young adults have misconceptions about organ donation. For example:

  • 80% believe you have to be very healthy to be a donor
  • nearly 50% fear donation disfigures the body
  • 35% fear that a doctor may not try as hard to save their life

These things are simply not true.
