What to do before you claim Youth Allowance

Before you can claim, you’ll need to confirm your identity and set up your online account. Here’s how to do it.

If you’ve never claimed a payment from us, you’ll need to do these 2 things first:

  1. Confirm your identity.
  2. Set up your online account.

Confirming your identity

You can confirm your identity at a service centre or an Agent or Access Point.

You’ll need to bring your original identity documents with you.

You must show us 3 original documents to confirm your identity.

While you’re there, ask for your Centrelink Customer Reference Number (CRN). You’ll need this to set up your online account.

Creating a myGov account and linking it to Centrelink

To claim your payment online, you’ll need a myGov account linked to Centrelink. If you don’t have a myGov account, you’ll need to create one and link it to Centrelink.

To create a myGov account, you’ll need your own email address. Read more about creating a myGov account.

Once you’ve set up your myGov account, you can then link it to your Centrelink online account. To do this you’ll need one of these:
