What to do before you claim Youth Allowance
31 October 2019
Before you can claim, you’ll need to confirm your identity and set up your online account. Here’s how to do it.
If you’ve never claimed a payment from us, you’ll need to do these 2 things first:
- Confirm your identity.
- Set up your online account.
Confirming your identity
You’ll need to bring your original identity documents with you.
You must show us 3 original documents to confirm your identity.
While you’re there, ask for your Centrelink Customer Reference Number (CRN). You’ll need this to set up your online account.
Creating a myGov account and linking it to Centrelink
To claim your payment online, you’ll need a myGov account linked to Centrelink. If you don’t have a myGov account, you’ll need to create one and link it to Centrelink.
Once you’ve set up your myGov account, you can then link it to your Centrelink online account. To do this you’ll need one of these:
- your CRN if you haven’t set up your Centrelink online account yet
- a linking code if you got one from us
- your password if you have one.
What to do next
If you’re dependent, you may need to give us your parents’ income details. Here’s how to do it.
This Stay Smart Online Week, take control of your online identity.
