Your Family Tax Benefit (FTB) for them will stop if they’re 16 or older and stop studying.
When your FTB stops depends on if, and when, they finish their study.
What happens if your child doesn’t finish year 12
If they don’t complete year 12 or an equivalent qualification, your FTB will stop from the date they stop studying.
What happens if your child finishes year 12
If they complete year 12 or an equivalent qualification in November or December, your FTB will continue until 31 December. If they complete it before then, your FTB will continue for 28 days after they complete their studies.
What you need to do
If you stop getting FTB for them, your child may get a payment in their own right. There are payments to help with:
- looking for work
- working as an apprentice.
When you want more information
If your child finishes year 12 or stops studying this year, your Family Tax Benefit (FTB) for them may stop.
