Centrelink online account help - Confirm or update current earnings for you and your partner

Instructions on how to confirm or update current earnings for you and your partner using your Centrelink online account.

 

You may have a letter from us asking you to confirm some details. You need to confirm or update your and your partner’s earnings, or just yours if you don’t have a partner.

Before you get started, it’s handy to have your latest payslips with you.

Step 1: get started

If you're not already in your Centrelink online account, sign into myGov and access your account. 

From your homepage, select the Confirm or update current earnings task.

Read the information on the Current Earnings Confirmation page.

Select:

  • Get started, if you’re ready to start your task, then go to Step 2 to confirm or update your earnings
  • Need more time?, if you need more time to complete your task

When you’re telling us about your and your partner’s earnings, select the question mark icon if you need help.

If you need to talk to us about this task, call us on 1800 952 220 and select line 2. The line is open Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Australian Eastern Standard time.

If you select Need more time?, a pop-up box will appear and show you a new due date.

To accept the new due date, select Yes.

You can only ask for more time once, and only if we haven’t stopped your payment.

Step 2: confirm or update your earnings

For this task, you only need to tell us about ongoing earnings you get by working for an employer.

You can call us on your regular payment line if you need to update other income. This could be income you get from:

  • sales commissions
  • work you do as a sole trader or business partner
  • participating in an Australian Disability Enterprise or Supported Wage System program
  • compensation for an injury
  • superannuation pensions and annuities

Check the earnings details we have about you. If you have a partner, we’ll ask you about your partner’s earnings in Step 4.

To confirm your details if you don’t have earnings, select I confirm I currently have no ongoing earnings.

If your current earnings details are correct, select the Confirm check box.

You’ll see the details you confirmed.

If you’ve made a mistake and need to update your details, un-check the check box then select:

  • Update, if you need to make changes
  • Add Employer, if your current employer isn’t listed, then go to Step 3
  • Back, to go back to the previous page
  • Save and close, to leave this task and complete it later

If you don’t have any more updates, select Next, then go to:

  • Step 4, if you have a partner
  • Step 6, if you don’t have a partner

If you select Update, select either:

  • Earnings details are not correct, if the amount you’re paid has changed
  • Stopped working for this employer, if you don’t work for the employer anymore

If you don’t recognise an employer, check your employer’s ABN or business name on your payslips. Sometimes an employer’s business name is different to their trading name.

If you still don’t recognise the employer, select Never worked for this employer.

We may need more details about your circumstances. You may find the information we need on your payslips or you can ask your employer.

Select:

  • Cancel, to undo your updates and go back to the previous page
  • Next, when you’ve answered all the questions

If you select Next you’ll see your updates.

Select:

  • Update, if you need to make changes
  • Reset, if you need to undo your updates
  • Add Employer, if your current employer isn’t listed, then go to Step 3
  • Back, to go back to the previous page
  • Save and close, to leave this task and complete it later
  • Next, if you don’t have any more updates, then go to Step 4 to confirm or update your partner’s earnings

Step 3: add new employer

For this task, you only need to tell us about ongoing earnings you get by working for an employer.

You can call us on your regular payment line if you need to update other income. This could be income you get from:

  • sales commissions
  • work you do as a sole trader or business partner
  • participating in an Australian Disability Enterprise or Supported Wage System program
  • compensation for an injury
  • superannuation pensions and annuities

To add a new employer, enter:

  • your employer’s name
  • ABN, this is optional
  • the date you started your new job

Select Yes or No to Are your earnings the same each pay?.

Select Next when you’ve answered all the questions.

To undo your updates and go back the previous page, select Cancel.

If your earnings are the same each pay, we’ll ask you to enter:

  • the amount you earn before tax and other deductions
  • how often you get paid
  • the number of hours you work
  • whether your employment is full time, part time or casual

You can check your payslips or ask your employer to give you the information you need.

Select:

  • Back, to go back to the previous page
  • Cancel, to undo your updates and go back to the Check your earnings page
  • Next, when you’ve answered all the questions

If you select Next you’ll see your updates.

Select:

  • Update, if you need to make changes
  • Remove, if you need to delete the new employer you just added
  • Back, to go back to the previous page
  • Save and close, to leave this task and complete it later
  • Next, if you don’t have any more updates, then go to Step 4 to confirm or update your partner’s earnings

Step 4: confirm or update your partner’s earnings

If you don’t have a partner, go to Step 6 to review and confirm your details.

For this task, you only need to tell us about ongoing earnings your partner gets from an employer.

You can call us on your regular payment line if you need to update your partner’s other income. This could be income they get from:

  • sales commissions
  • work as a sole trader or business partner
  • compensation for an injury
  • superannuation pensions and annuities

Check the earnings details we have about your partner.

If your partner doesn’t have earnings, select I confirm my partner currently has no ongoing earnings. This will confirm your partner’s earnings details.

If your partner’s current earnings details are correct, select the Confirm check box.

You’ll see the details you confirmed.

If you’ve made a mistake and need to update your details, un-check the check box then select:

  • Update, if you need to make changes
  • Confirm, if these details are correct
  • Add Employer, if your partner’s current employer isn’t listed, then go to Step 5
  • Back, to go back to the previous page
  • Save and close, to leave this task and complete it later

If you don’t have any more updates, select Next. Go to Step 6 to review and confirm details.

If you need to talk to us about your partner’s circumstances, call 1800 952 220 and select line 2. The line is open Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Australian Eastern Standard time.

  • Next, when you’ve answered all the questions

If you select Next you’ll see your updates.

Select:

  • Update, if you need to make changes
  • Reset, if you need to undo your updates
  • Add Employer, if your partner’s current employer isn’t listed, then go to Step 5
  • Back, to go back to the previous page
  • Save and close, to leave this task and complete it later
  • Next, if you don’t have any more updates

If you select Next, go to Step 6 to review and confirm your and your partner’s details.

Step 5: add your partner’s new employer

For this step, you only need to tell us about ongoing earnings your partner gets from an employer.

You can call us on your regular payment line if you need to update other income. This could be income your partner gets get from:

  • sales commissions
  • work they do as a sole trader or business partner
  • compensation for an injury
  • superannuation pensions and annuities

To add a new employer for your partner, enter:

  • the name of your partner’s employer
  • ABN, this is optional
  • the date your partner started their new job

Select Yes or No to Are your partner’s earnings the same each pay?.

Select Next when you’ve answered all the questions.

To undo your updates and go back the previous page, select Cancel.

If your partner’s earnings are the same each pay, we’ll ask you to enter:

  • the amount they earn before tax and other deductions
  • how often they get paid
  • the number of hours they work
  • whether their employment is full time, part time or casual

Your partner can check their payslips or ask their employer for the information you need.

Select:

  • Back, to go back to the previous page
  • Cancel, to undo your updates and go back to the Check your partner’s earnings page
  • Next, when you’ve answered all the questions

If you select Next you’ll see your updates.

Select:

  • Update, if you need to make changes
  • Remove, if you need to delete the new employer you just added
  • Back, to go back to the previous page
  • Save and close, to leave this task and complete it later
  • Next, if you don’t have any more updates

If you select Next, go to Step 6 to review and confirm you and your partner’s details.

Step 6: review and confirm

Check the details you’ve given us.

Select:

  • Expand, to see your updates
  • Update, if you need to make changes
  • Back, to go back to the previous page
  • Save and close, to leave this task and complete it later

If all the information is correct, read the declaration.

If you understand and agree with the declaration, select I accept the declaration. Then select Confirm to submit your task.

Once you submit your task, we may:

  • ask you to provide some documents, or
  • let you know we’re reviewing your information

If we don’t need more information, you’ll see the outcome on the Assessment Outcome page immediately.

If you want to view the outcome at a later date, you can do this from your homepage. To view it, select Menu, Current Earnings, then Confirm Current Earnings.

You can see the information we used to make a decision. To do this, select the tabs across the top of the Current Earnings Confirmation page.

Depending on the outcome, you may be able to select:

  • Debt explanation, to read how we calculated the debt, if you get a debt
  • Centrelink payment history, for details of each Centrelink payment you got each fortnight
  • You reported to Centrelink, to see earnings you’ve previously told us about
  • What you just told us, to see the details you just provided

If you don’t agree with the outcome, please call us on 1800 952 220 and select line 2. The line is open Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Australian Eastern Standard time.

We can check the details you’ve given us and go through the decision with you.

Select Return to home to go back to your homepage.

Step 7: sign out

From your homepage, you can complete other transactions or select the myGov icon to return to myGov.

For your privacy and security, sign out when you’ve finished using your myGov account.

If you didn’t sign in from my.gov.au, select Logout.
