Express Plus Centrelink mobile app help - manage money you owe on the app

Instructions on how to manage your Centrelink debt with the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.

You can no longer bring cash, cheques or money orders into Centrelink Service Centres to repay debts.

A new version of the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app will be available soon. You’ll see a new look home screen and updated features.

Step 1: get started

Select menu from your Express Plus Centrelink home screen.

Select Money You Owe.

The Money You Owe Summary Information screen shows you:

  • the Total outstanding amount
  • Your next repayment amount and due date, if you already have an arrangement in place
  • the reference number
  • the original amount of money you owed
  • the amount you’ve already paid

Select the:

  • left arrow button to go back to your home screen
  • clock button to see a history of your repayments
  • grid button to manage the money you owe, including making a payment and updating details, then go to Step 2

Step 2: manage the money you owe

Choose an option from the Debt management screen.

Select Make a payment if you want to pay some or all of the money you owe, then go to
Step 3.

Select Payment Arrangement - Pay from Centrelink payments if you:

  • get a payment from us and want to update your payment arrangement, then go to Step 4
  • want to set up a new payment arrangement, then go to
    Step 5

Select Payment Arrangement - Pay from other payment methods if you:

  • don’t get a payment from us and want to update your existing payment arrangement, then go to Step 4
  • don’t get a payment from us and want to set up a new payment arrangement, then go to Step 5

To go back to the Summary Information screen, select the left arrow button.

Step 3: make a payment

Choose a payment option and select the tick button.

To pay with a credit or debit card

Enter the Amount you want to pay in dollars and cents, including the decimal point, then select the tick button. If you want to pay by a different method, go to BPAY or Post Billpay.

Enter the card details, including your:

  • Card number
  • Expiry date of your card, month and year
  • Security code (CCV), the 3 numbers on the back of your card

 If your details are correct, select the Confirmation checkbox. Then select Pay now.

We’ll give you a receipt to let you know your payment has been successful. Please make a note of the Receipt number for your records.

Select the:

  • logoff button to close the mobile app
  • question mark button if you need help
  • home button to go back to your home screen

This is the end of the process to make a payment with a credit or debit card. Go to Step 6 to logoff or return to Step 2 to manage money you owe.

To pay with BPAY

On the Next Steps screen, we’ll give you our BPAY details. Use the Biller Code and Ref: number to make a payment to us with your Australian bank account.

Select the right arrow button to:

  • send an email with the BPAY details
  • save the Make a payment screen, with the BPAY details, to the photo gallery on your mobile device

Payments made with BPAY may take up to 7 working days to show in your bank account.

Select the left arrow button to go back to the previous screen.

This is the end of the process to make a payment with Post Billpay. Go to Step 6 to logoff or return to Step 2 to manage money you owe.

To pay with Post Billpay

You can make a payment at any Australia Post store with EFTPOS, cash, cheque or money order. You’ll need a Post Billpay barcode. Payments made with:

  • cash, card or money order, will instantly update your record
  • cheque, may take up to 7 working days to process

Select the right arrow button to:

  • send an email with the barcode
  • save the Make a payment screen to the photo gallery on your mobile device

Select the left arrow button to go back to the previous screen.

This is the end of the process to make a payment with Post Billpay. Go to Step 6 to logoff or return to Step 2 to manage money you owe.

Step 4: update your payment arrangement

If you have a payment arrangement, the Payment Arrangement screen shows you how much you currently repay us from your regular Centrelink payment.

Select the:

  • left arrow button to go back to the Debt management screen
  • pencil button to change your repayment amount

To change your repayment amount, enter the Amount in dollars and cents, including the decimal point. Then select the tick button.

We’ll tell you:

  • if the changes you made have been successful
  • your Receipt date
  • the Arrangement end date
  • the Outcome of your request
  • the date your new payment arrangement starts and ends

Select the:

  • logoff button to close the mobile app
  • question mark button if you need help
  • home button to go back to your home screen

This is the end of the process to make a payment with Post Billpay. Go to Step 6 to logoff or return to Step 2 to manage money you owe.

Step 5: set up a new payment arrangement

To set up your new payment arrangement, select How to pay.

You can choose how you want to make your repayments. Select:

  • Direct Debit, to set up a regular transfer from your Australian bank account
  • Manual, to make your payment with BPAY or Post Billpay at any Australia Post store

Payments made with BPAY or through Post Billpay, with cheque or money order, may take up to 7 working days to show in your bank account.

In this example, we’ll set up a payment arrangement with Direct Debit.

Enter your Account name, BSB and bank Account number, then select the tick button.

Select What to pay.

Choose how often you want to make a repayment. Select Weekly, Fortnightly or Monthly. Enter the Amount you want to pay in dollars and cents, including the decimal point, then select the tick button.

If we can’t approve the amount you entered, you’ll need to submit a higher one. If you can’t make a higher repayment, Call us to work out an amount you can manage.

Select Cancel if you want to start again.

If we approve the amount you entered, you’ll be taken to the next screen. Select When to pay.

Use the date selector to enter the date you want your repayments to start, then select Done. To select a date, scroll to find the date you want to select.

On the next screen, make sure the Start date you’ve entered is correct.

If you want to change the start date, select the cross button.

If the start date is correct, select the tick button.

Check all the details you’ve entered are correct. If you need to make changes, select the left arrow button.

If the details are correct, select the tick button.

Read the declaration. If you understand and agree with the declaration, select I accept and submit.

On the next screen we’ll tell you:

  • if your new payment arrangement has been successfully set up
  • how much your repayment is and when it starts
  • your receipt date
  • your chosen payment option

Select the:

  • logoff button to close the mobile app
  • question mark button if you need help
  • home button to go back to your home screen

This is the end of the process to set up a new payment arrangement. Go to Step 6 to logoff or return to Step 2 to manage money you owe.

Step 6: logoff

From your home screen, you can complete other transactions.

For your privacy and security, Logoff when you have finished using your Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.
