Eligibility rules

Check that you meet all the eligibility rules for Age Pension before you start your claim.

Financial Information Service

If you’re not sure how your finances may impact your eligibility, use our Financial Information Service.

It’s a free service that can inform and educate you about financial matters. We offer support through free seminars, phone appointments or personal appointments with our Financial Information Service Officers. Find out about how you can talk to us.

Identity confirmation

You must confirm your identity before you can make a claim. We must verify your photo identity in person at your local service centre, Agent or Access point. If we’ve already confirmed your identity, we generally don’t need to do it again.

International Social Security Agreements

You usually need to be an Australian resident and in Australia to claim Age Pension. However, social security agreements may help you claim if you’re living or have lived and worked in certain countries.

Supporting documents

To confirm the information in your claim, we’ll ask you to provide us with supporting documents . If you claim online we’ll give you a list of documents before you can submit the claim. If you use a paper claim, use the checklist to ensure you give us all the documents we ask for. This will help us assess your claim faster.

Nominee arrangements

Consider whether you want someone to deal with us on your behalf. You can authorise a person or organisation to enquire, act or get payments for you. This doesn’t prevent you from dealing directly with us.
