To get Parental Leave Pay you must meet residence rules.
- have Australian citizenship
- hold a permanent visa
- hold a Special Category visa
- hold a temporary visa, such as a partner provisional, interdependency or temporary protection visa.
You must continue to meet the residence rules for as long as you get this payment.

If you've recently arrived as a resident in Australia, you may have to wait to get payments or concession cards.
