Special Benefit

When you reach Age Pension age

If you’re getting Special Benefit and reach Age Pension age, we’ll invite you to apply to transfer to Age Pension.

Before you reach Age Pension age

We’ll invite you to apply to transfer to Age Pension 13 weeks before you reach Age Pension age.

You’ll need to tell us if you want to transfer to Age Pension and have any superannuation.

We may continue to pay you Special Benefit if you’re not eligible for Age Pension.

Changes to your payment

Once you reach Age Pension age, we’ll pay you the Pension Supplement with your regular payment each fortnight. The supplement replaces any separate additional payments of Telephone Allowance or Pharmaceutical Allowance that you may have been paid.

You should apply to transfer to Age Pension to see if you’re eligible. Read more about how to transfer to Age Pension.
