There are things you need to do while you’re getting Youth Allowance as a student or an Australian Apprentice.
You'll need to:
- report any income you earn
- report if your study load changes
- tell us about any changes to your circumstances
- tell us if you’re going overseas
If you don’t do these things
If you don’t report what you need to you may be paid the wrong amount.
You may even end up with a debt you will need to repay.
In this section
How much you or your partner earn affects your payment. We need to know what you and your partner earn so we pay you the right amount.
Change of circumstances
You must tell us if things change as it may affect your Youth Allowance payment.
Travelling outside Australia
To get your payment while outside Australia, you must remain eligible for Youth Allowance.
Annual parental income test reassessment
If you're dependent and get Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY, we may need your parents’ or guardians’ income details each year.
Online review of study details
We may send a letter to your myGov Inbox asking you to complete an online review of your study details.
Cancelling your payment online
You may be able to cancel your own payment online. This means you don’t need to visit a service centre or call us. Cancelling your payment is fast and easy and helps you avoid a debt.
