A range of payments and services is available to support people living in rural and remote areas.

Payments and rebates for farmers

Farm Household Allowance offers help for farmers and their families experiencing financial hardship to meet basic household needs and improve their long term financial security.

Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme helps reduce the freight costs imposed by Bass Strait. It helps shippers transport goods by sea between Tasmania and the Australian mainland, and between the main island of Tasmania and King Island and the Furneaux Group.

Agents and Access Points

We have over 580 Agents and Access Points offering a broad range of government services in rural, regional and remote communities where you can:

  • access departmental services and other government information
  • use our computer, phone, fax and photocopier for your government and job seeking needs

Mobile Service Centres

Our Mobile Service Centres help people in rural and regional communities who might not otherwise be able to access government services. Staff in the Mobile Service Centres can assist you with the payments and services you may be entitled to.

Rural call centres

Our rural call centres provide a telephone service for people living in dedicated catchment areas in rural Queensland and South Australia. All calls made to Centrelink 13 numbers from the catchment areas are answered by specialist staff.

Specialist staff also answer all calls made to the Farmers Assistance hotline. Call 132 316 from anywhere in Australia.

Financial Information Service

The Financial Information Service is a free, confidential service that provides education and information on financial and lifestyle issues to all Australians.

Social workers

Our social workers can help you during difficult times by providing counselling, support and information.

Australian Apprenticeships provides information and resources about Australian Apprenticeships and the support available. connects you to information and services across Australia including support for people in rural and regional Australia.

My Skills aims to connect students and employers with training organisations and provides information about Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) in Australia.

Study Assist provides information to current and prospective students about Australian Government assistance for financial tertiary study including information about subsidised fees and government loans.
