Equity

The total equity of the department at 30 June 2018 was $1,160 million.

Assets

The department’s total assets increased by 24.5 per cent from the end of 2016–17 to $2,808.1 million at 30 June 2018. The department’s assets are primarily retained appropriations and non-financial assets.

Liabilites

The department’s total liabilities increased by 17 per cent from the end of 2016–17 to $1,648.1 million at 30 June 2018. The department’s liabilities primarily relate to accrued payments and staff provisions.

Administered items

In 2017–18 the department collected and transferred $1.6 billion in child support payments between separated parents.

The department recognised $24.5 million in dividends and competitive neutrality payments on behalf of the Australian Government from Australian Hearing.
