Hi, my name’s Pete, and I was part of the first STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) ICT scheme in February 2016.
I am a Test Engineer in Adelaide.
I moved from Melbourne to Adelaide for this chance and haven’t looked back. I completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) in mid-2014 and have found I could transfer many of my skills from the course in ways I didn’t know were possible. I’ve been able to contribute to shaping the department, all while serving the Australian public. Working for the department is an amazing experience, particularly knowing the work you complete goes a long way to help the general public.
I have experienced some interesting challenges, but there is constant support from colleagues and managers. My team is incredibly supportive and I always feel welcome, with people more than willing to share their knowledge.
One of my biggest achievements is being involved in the update of the Carers project, one of the department’s most complex and important projects in 2016. This project involved frequent challenges and unexpected turns, which were great for my development and training.
Outside of work I have many passions. I watch and play a lot of soccer and AFL, and moving over from Victoria there’s plenty of competition between sports teams, which leads to some quality banter in the office!
I’ve loved every moment of the STEM ICT scheme and look forward to all the challenges that may be headed towards me in the future. Don’t hesitate in applying for the next intake!
