There are changes to how we report payments to service suppliers

From August 2018, we’ll report certain payments to service suppliers to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

The department uses services from a range of suppliers across many categories. From August 2018, we now report some of the payments we make to suppliers. This includes payments we made from 1 July 2017.

If you have an Australian Business Number and we’ve paid you a grant, we report this amount to the ATO.

We also report if we’ve paid you for services including:

  • advertising and media
  • accounting
  • auditing
  • cleaning and maintenance
  • consulting
  • design and printing
  • interpreting and translating
  • employment and recruiting
  • IT
  • legal
  • medical
  • security
  • training

This doesn’t change your tax obligations.

We won’t report payments for the following services to the ATO:

  • travel
  • rent
  • telephone
  • hire of goods
  • software licences
  • employee payments

We also won’t report payments made by credit card or to other government entities.
