How Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme works.
We administer the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
The northbound component of the Scheme applies to eligible goods produced or manufactured in Tasmania for permanent use or sale on the Australian mainland.
The Southbound component of the scheme applies to persons or businesses engaged in manufacturing and mining, or in primary production.
The King Island and Furneaux Group intrastate component applies to intrastate sea freight shipped between King Island and the main island of Tasmania, and between Flinders Island and the main island of Tasmania.
If you are a sportsperson or a professional entertainer, or are transporting brood mares, you may be eligible for freight assistance for transporting equipment.
The rate of assistance for freight costs you will receive under the TFES is based on the sea freight cost disadvantage.
