About the Scheme

We administer the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

The Scheme operates under Ministerial Directions and Guidelines issued by the Commonwealth Minister for Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities.

The Department of Human Services administers the Scheme, on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities. There are 3 categories that you can apply for:

  • northbound goods
  • southbound goods, covering 2 sub categories:
    • manufacturing and mining
    • primary production
  • Intrastate - King Island and the Furneaux Group

In addition, you may be eligible for assistance if you belong to 1 or more of the following special categories:

  • sportspeople
  • professional entertainers
  • broodmares
