From 1 January 2017, migrating family members may have to wait before they get a payment.
Migrants will no longer be exempt from the newly arrived resident’s waiting period because they have family members living in Australia.
All new arrivals may have to wait 104 weeks before they can get income support payments. They may still be able to get family and child care payments.
There is no waiting period for other support for refugees and humanitarian entrants.
