Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme Authority applications must be submitted to different places for assessment.
Items available for Authority application under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) aren’t the same as items available under the Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (RPBS).
The RPBS is for eligible veterans and has a wide range of items for prescribing.
It is important that you check your patient’s eligibility for treatment before applying for Authority items. This will determine where you send your Authority application.
Send all Authority applications for items under the RPBS to the Veterans' Affairs Pharmaceutical Advisory Centre (VAPAC). There’s a free postal service:
REPLY PAID 9998
VAPAC (Veterans' Affairs Pharmaceutical Advisory Centre)
Department of Veterans' Affairs
GPO Box 9998
BRISBANE QLD 4001
You can contact the VAPAC 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1800 552 580. Pharmacists there can answer questions about items related to RPBS Authority applications.
If you send RPBS Authority applications to us, there may be a delay in processing. We’ll have to direct the application to the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Applications for general items on the PBS can be made through the Online PBS Authorities System.
