You can phone for a continuing PBS authority for some eye drugs

18 May 2018

Health professionals can apply for continuing Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) treatment for some eye drugs by phone.

You can apply by phone for eye drugs that treat the following conditions:

  • subfoveal choroidal neovascularisation
  • retinal vein occlusion, and
  • diabetic macular oedema

You’ll need to have had previous approval for the initial PBS subsidised application. Continuing treatment needs to be for the same eye.

When you phone us to apply you’ll get immediate assessment results over the telephone. Telephone approvals will help patients get their PBS medicines faster.

You won’t need to send us your authority prescription as the continuing treatment is Authority required (telephone).
